STEP 1

Set the tempo to 120 BPM.

Download and load up into a Sylenth1 VST this preset: Click here to download!

STEP 2

On the Sylenth1 track loaded with this preset, create a new clip, one bar long. Using the D2 note insert two small hits off-beat in the first half of the bar. In the second half, using the A1 note insert two hits on beat.

This is how it sounds like:

-Fill the gap between the D2 notes with two small hits.

-Insert another A1 note between the other two hits of A1.

This is how it sounds like with the extra notes:

Duplicate this bar once so you’ll get a two bars loop. Move the D2 notes to C2. Do the same for the A2 notes but delete the last hit.

Step 5

Duplicate these 2 bars so you’ll get a 4 bars loop. In the last two bars:

- move the D2 to C2

-move the A1 to F1

-move the C2 to D1

STEP 1

Beatport displays the actual tempo of the song. In this case is 121 BPM, so set the tempo to 121 beats per minute.

From Ableton’s INSTRUMENT RACK > SYNTH BASS FOLDER insert the “ANALOGICS” preset.

 STEP 2

We need to adjust a few settings on this preset. Set the:

Delay from 16% to zero.

Sub to 87%.

Noise: 29 dB

Vel Filter: 1.66

STEP 3

Now let’s write the midi notes. Very simple. Create a new clip, 1 bar long. Using the C2 note create the following sequence:

This is how it sounds like (with some simple drums):

Duplicate this bar four times so you get a 4 bars loop. These are gonna be the midi notes for this bassline:

-In the first bar, instead of C2 C2 C2 C2 we’ll have a descending sequence : F2 – D#2 – D2- C2

This Sylenth1 Preset has the +7 note on one of its oscillators, a common technique for this style.

Create a new clip, 1 bar long. Using the G2 note create the following sequence. Use different lengths for some notes.

We’ll use a tempo of 128 beats per minute.

STEP 2:

Create a new clip (1 bar long) and use the E2 note to create the following sequence, very simple.

This is how it sounds like now:

Duplicate this first bar and you’ll get a 2 bar loop. Now lift the last three notes of each bar to A2. Between E2 and A2 you’ll use a G2.

Now extend the G2 notes a little bit to the right for the GLIDE effect.

Now, insert a B2 just after the first E2 note in the second bar for some variation, this will also create a nice glide-ing effect.
