This is how it sounds like:

<audio controls preload>

This one was requested by you guys. We’re gonna take a look on Hot Since 82′s Remix of Spanish Pantalones and we’ll try to create the bassline from this track using Ableton’s Built-in Instrument Rack. This will be a quick one .

Here’s the remix: http://www.beatport.com/track/spanish-pantalones-hot-since-82-remix/3421775

And this is the bassline we’re gonna create:

<audio controls preload>

NOTE: CLICK ON THE IMAGES TO VIEW THEM IN FULL SIZE!

STEP 1

Beatport displays the actual tempo of the song. In this case is 121 BPM, so set the tempo to 121 beats per minute.

From Ableton’s INSTRUMENT RACK > SYNTH BASS FOLDER insert the “ANALOGICS” preset.

STEP 2

We need to adjust a few settings on this preset. Set the:

Delay from 16% to zero.

Sub to 87%.

Noise: 29 dB

Vel Filter: 1.66

STEP 3

Now let’s write the midi notes. Very simple. Create a new clip, 1 bar long. Using the C2 note create the following sequence:

This is how it sounds like (with some simple drums):

<audio controls preload>

STEP 4

Duplicate this bar four times so you get a 4 bars loop. These are gonna be the midi notes for this bassline:

-In the first bar, instead of C2 C2 C2 C2 we’ll have a descending sequence : F2 – D#2 – D2- C2

- In the third bar, move the second C2 to D#2.

And there you go, here is the bassline:

<audio controls preload>

With Drums:

<audio controls preload>

In this one we’re gonna take a look on this classic bassline style for house. We’ll use the Sylenth1 VST. This one is very easy

<audio controls preload>

NOTE: CLICK ON THE IMAGES TO VIEW THEM IN FULL SIZE!

STEP 1

Set the tempo to 124 beats per minute.

Download and load up this Sylenth1 Preset: Click here to download!

This Sylenth1 Preset has the +7 note on one of its oscillators, a common technique for this style.

STEP 2

Create a new clip, 1 bar long. Using the G2 note create the following sequence. Use different lengths for some notes.

This is how the bass sounds like:

<audio controls preload>

STEP 3

Duplicate this bar four times so you get a 4 bar loop.

Then move the notes from each bar in this progression:    G2 – D#2  -  C2  - D2

This is what we got:

<audio controls preload>

STEP 4

Move the last note of second and fourth bar one space to the right (1/16 grid).

With a little twist to the groove:

<audio controls preload>

<audio controls preload>

And here’s without any effects on:

<audio controls preload>

STEP 1

Set the tempo to 123 BPM.

From Instrument Rack > SYNTH CHORD folder insert the COLORED VOX Preset.

STEP 2

Create a new clip, 2 bars long. Each chord will hit off-beat, every 1/2 of a bar. This is the chord progression:

- F2 Major:   F2 – A2 – C3

-D2 Minor:   D2 – F2 – A2

-F2 Minor:   F2 – G#2 – C3

-C2 Minor:   C2 – D#2 – G2

(CLICK ON THE IMAGE TO VIEW IT IN FULL SIZE)

This is what we got until now:

<audio controls preload>

STEP 3

To get that deep house feeling, we’ll add the following notes on each chord hit:

E3  |  C3  |  D#3  |  A#2

This is how it sounds like with these extra notes:

<audio controls preload>

STEP 4

Add the root note of each chord one octave lower. Also, add some extra notes for some variation of these low sounds.

Here is our chord progression:

<audio controls preload>

STEP 4

Ableton has a lot of built-in audio effects. Here is what you can do for these chords.

From AUDIO EFFECT RACK > TONE AND COLOR Folder add the “RITMO GENTLY” preset.

And there you go… this is how it sounds like with this audio effect on and a quick loop.

<audio controls preload>

In this one we’re gonna create this Electro Synth, using 2 presets for Sylenth1, one for the Chords and one for the Lead track .

<audio controls preload>

STEP 1

Set the tempo to 134 beats per minute.

Download and load up the Sylenth1 Preset for the Chords Track: CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD!

STEP 2

Create a new clip, 1 bar long and using the E2 note create the following sequence:

This is how it sounds like:

<audio controls preload>

STEP 3

From Ableton’s MIDI Effects, insert an E minor scale and add the Eternal Sunshine Chord Effect:

Here’s how it sounds with the Scale & Chord Effect on:

<audio controls preload>

STEP 4

Duplicate this bar 4 times so you get a four bar loop. This is going to be our chord progression : E – G – D – F

And here’s our chord progression:

<audio controls preload>

STEP 5

In the first bar, we’ll insert 2 small hits between the last two notes. This will create a nice rhythm.

Here’s how it sounds like:

<audio controls preload>

Okay, we’re done with the chords .

Step 6

Now, for the lead track, download and load up this Sylenth1 preset: Click here to DOWNLOAD!

Create a new clip, one bar long and using the E4 key create the following sequence:

Here’s our lead for now:

<audio controls preload>

STEP 7

Duplicate this bar once so you get a two bar loop. Move the last note of each bar from E4 to B3.

And this is how it sounds like with that note switched to B3:

<audio controls preload>

STEP 8

In the first bar, move the last two E4 hits to a C4. In the second bar, move only the last E4 note to a C4:

And here’s our lead sound:

<audio controls preload>

And with the chords:

<audio controls preload>

Pretty simple huh?!

In this one we’re gonna take a look on how to create this chord progression using a simple technique with Sylenth1.

<audio controls preload>

STEP 1

Download and load up this Sylenth1 preset. Click here to download!

We’ll use a tempo of 126 beats per minute.

STEP 2

Create a new clip, 1 bar long. Using the F#3 note create this simple sequence:

This is what we got:

<audio controls preload>

STEP 3

From Ableton’s MIDI Effects, insert a F# minor scale and a chord effect.

Input +2, +7, -12 and -24 for the chord effect.

This is how it sounds with the chord effect on it:

<audio controls preload>

STEP 4

Duplicate this bar four times so you get a 4 bars loop. In the last 2 bars, move the F#3 to a C3. This will create a nice ascending and descending motion.

This is the chord progression until now:

<audio controls preload>

STEP 5

Let’s create a better transition from F# to C by moving the last note of each 2 bars to a D#.

Here’s our chord progression:

<audio controls preload>

STEP 6

Drop a compressor and side-chain this track with the Kick.

Here’s the classic side-chained sound:

<audio controls preload>

STEP 7

Take a look on what happens when you use different values for the chord effect. For this example, we changed the +2 to a +3 for a minor chord sound.

Take a listen to our new chord progression:

<audio controls preload>

Compared to:

<audio controls preload>

In this one we’re gonna take a look on how to create this simple Electro House Bassline, using Sylenth1.

<audio controls preload>

STEP 1:

Okay, so first of all download the Sylenth1 preset for the bass: CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD!

We’ll use a tempo of 128 beats per minute.

STEP 2:

Create a new clip (1 bar long) and use the E2 note to create the following sequence, very simple.

This is how it sounds like now:

<audio controls preload>

STEP 3

Duplicate this first bar and you’ll get a 2 bar loop. Now lift the last three notes of each bar to A2. Between E2 and A2 you’ll use a G2.

This is how it sounds like now:

<audio controls preload>

STEP 4

Now extend the G2 notes a little bit to the right for the GLIDE effect.

This is how it sounds like with the G2 notes extended:

<audio controls preload>

STEP 5

Now, insert a B2 just after the first E2 note in the second bar for some variation, this will also create a nice glide-ing effect.

And there you go, a very simple Electro House Bass-line done with Sylenth1:

<audio controls preload>

Milk Guitar is a strummable, MIDI-controlled virtual instrument which you can use with any multi-track vst-compatible host.

It contains a few well-sampled chords that are easy to play and and strum using your midi keyboard. It has several built-in effects including room and reverb controls, harmonics, bass cut filter, and the super-sweet stereo widening effect. Pre-defined combinations and strumming keys allow you to strum and tap with ease. And because it’s midi, it’s very easy to quantize your guitar part.
